1992 bmw 318is driver side tail lights are not working?

1992 bmw 318is driver side tail lights are not working. I changed the bulb and checked fuses and it still would not work. What else could it be? Thank you for any and all help!|||Clean out the sockets for the bulbs with electrical contact cleaner. Make sure there%26#039;s no rust or corrosion. If there is, clean it up with emery paper (the black sort of sandpaper). Make sure the solder connections between the wires and the sockets are all good. If the sockets are badly corroded, you may need to replace them.

Once everything is clean, use some dielectric grease to protect against corrosion, and reinsert the bulbs. Make sure you%26#039;re using quality bulbs (as noted by the other poster).|||Hey. I have a 2000 318is and my dad is big on cars and knows basically everything there is to know. I kept having the same issue with my tail lights as well and I believe he found out that it was something with the fuses. I know you said you checked yours already, in that case it might just be because it%26#039;s an older car. It%26#039;s a common problem for the tail lights to burn out quickly in those cars.|||The BMW tail lights and turn signals have bulbs in them with a copper/gold base (the part that plugs into the housing).....you probably bought replacement bulbs with a cheap aluminum base, which shorts out all the time (I had the same problem years back on my 1992 318is also.)..........use only the more expensive ones (they%26#039;re about $2.00 more, big deal !) even if you have to buy it from the dealer directly.....PS.......watch out for that timeing chain tensioner....it%26#039;s a ***** to pay for.

How do you change the tail light assembly on 2004 Yukon Denali?

I bought new lights and want to do the change myself.|||open the rear door/hatch ,you will find 2 screws holding the light to the body, remove them swing light out to 90 degrees pull outward, unplug bulbs, noting which one goes where ,install new lamp fixture ,do one side at a time so you%26#039;ll have a model to go by.

How do I go about changing the tail light bulb in a 2005 chevy colorado ( it is the bottom bulb)?

DROP THE TAILGATE

THERE ARE 2 SCREWS ON THE SIDE.

UNDO THOSE SCREWS THE TAIL LIGHT COMES OFF

THEN UNDO THE SOCKET FOR THE BULB|||On my silverado i have to drop the tailgate to access the mounting screws. On the inner side of the tail gate are to bolt that hold the lens in. Usually an allen wrench or one of those starshaped security keys are required.

Tail lights and blinkers don't work?

I have a %26#039;94 Buick Regal Gran Sport. After recently changing the alternator in it, my tail lights and blinkers stopped working. I%26#039;ve tried changing out the fuses, but that didn%26#039;t help. What else could it be?|||Multi Function Switch.|||if it happened right after hooking a charger to the system you more than likely blew some fuses or relays

How do you change the tail light bulbs on a 2002 Pontiac Firebird? ?

I have a 2002 Pontiac Firebird and my tail lights are out. I just don%26#039;t know how to replace them. If someone could please tell me, that%26#039;d be great!|||Unable to find it in your owner%26#039;s manual?

Open rear hatch, remove access panels to allow you to reach the tail light bulbs. They are located forward of the tail light assemblies on the inside bolster within the trunk enclosure.

Most of the bulbs will be a 1/4 turn counter clockwise to remove from their housing and the bulb may be a straight pull from it%26#039;s socket.

Get in there as it only takes a few minutes to accomplish.

How to change out tail light on my 05 Honda Accord?

I bought some of the Euro Tail lights to put on. I just cant seem to get the old lights to pop off though. I unscrewed the 3 screws holding it in. Is there something I can do to help me pull the lights off?|||you take off the taillight cover and you unscrew the bulb and replace with new bulb.|||Sometimes the seal around the plastic lens sticks on the lens, spray some silicone spray penetrating liquid and let it soak for a while, then tab it lightly with a rubber mallet until it comes lose...

good luck|||FIRST MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NOT ANY OTHER SCREWS HOLDING IT AND ALSO LOOK TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY MOLDING PIECES HOLDING IT AS WELL. IT COULD JUST BE STUCK AS MENTIONED ABOVE JUST BE CAREFUL.

Should vehicle tail lights be different colors?

Should red mean stop and maybe change running lights to something else, so it would be easier to tell if someone ahead was stopping? What color whould you suggest?|||Yes, I totally agree. In keeping with what we%26#039;re used to (don%26#039;t want to make the learning curve too difficult here)I think red should be stop and running should be green. It may be weird at first, but this is what life is all about. Since you brought this up, I%26#039;d also like to say that I think all car manufacturers should change blinker lights to yellow. It is highly annoying when I have to struggle to figure out whether the car ahead of me is about to turn or not since the blinker section is red....particularly during the day. Just my two cents...

How do I change the tail light on a 2005 Chevy Cobalt LT?

The 2005 Chevy Cobalt LT has a single, triangular tail lamp assembly on each rear corner of the vehicle. (Not the more common pair of circular lights on other models.)

Opening the trunk reveals two screws attaching the tail lamp assembly to the car. Removing the two screws allows the assembly to wiggle a little bit, but the assembly cannot be pulled away from the car to disconnect the wiring harness or access the bulbs.

The Pioneer sub woofer limits how far I can pull the trunk carpet wall back, but I have felt for any other retention clips, screws, or wire harnesses. I cannot find anything else to disconnect.

I have gradually increased my pulling force with no success. I have tried sliding the assembly in different directions to un-lock any slide-and-lock style retainers with no success. I have tried removing the passenger-side tail light assembly, but have the same problem.|||It%26#039;s under warranty take it to your local dealership and say fix it leave the subs they have to work around it.|||take the sub box out twist th harness and the bulb and it should come out|||Hello fellow Cobalt owner. Have 97 lincoln mark 8 tail lights not working, brake lights turn signal back up etc all k what could be wrong?

Just had fuse changed on brake lights, due to car not coming out of park, but all fuses have tested good. All brake lights, back up lights, turn signals, etc, work, but not tail lights. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?|||The bulbs filament is burnt. Each rear tail light bulb has a double filament. The bright one is for the turn, brake, and hazard lights. The other is for the park lights. The bulb should be a 3157. If by chance a 3156 bulb was installed the lights wouldn%26#039;t work right, because this bulb is a single filament.

Double check your bulbs.

Hope this helps and good luck. Christopher|||best answer never showed up The easiest solution and the answer turned out to be just check for burned out fuse. Never trust a fuse tester. Even though they all tested good twice, I had two burned out fuses - one for the brake light, not letting the car come out of park, and one for the tail lights

|||Does your car still stay in park when you start it and try to shift it? The reason I ask is because the same thing happened to my Crown Victoria. The rear brake lights were not working so the car would not shift into gear. What the problem was is the brake light switch. When it burns out the tail lights will not work and the car will not shift into gear. The brake light switch is located at the top of the brake pedal shaft. It%26#039;s a pain in the neck to replace because you have to reach up under the dash board. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to replace. The brake light switch is about 40 bucks from the dealer. So if your lights are out and the car will not shift into drive than that is your problem. If your car is driving, sorry I don%26#039;t know what to tell you, you%26#039;ll have to get a mechanic to look at it.

When I bough my brake light switch the dealer told me the reason the car will not shift into gear when the brake light don%26#039;t work it%26#039;s because it%26#039;s a safety feature to prevent you from driving the car without tail and brake lights. Especially at night, so when you stop you won%26#039;t get rear ended by another car because the brake lights didn%26#039;t work.|||its not the bulbs you have several tail light bulbs for each size the problem Mark8 have is the wiring harness in the trunk it runs up the trunk hinge so it moves every time you open and close the trunk. You have a pinched wire in there find where the harness bend when trunk is open and the problem will be close by that area.

When the 1995 mustang came out, why did Ford change the design of the tail lights for the 1996 modle and up?

They actually made the horizontal lights in 94 and 95 and then switched to verticle when the new modular engine came about. the horizontals are specific to the 5.0%26#039;s and also the garbage v6%26#039;s|||Why Ford switched from horizontal to vertical on the taillights? The vertical resembled the original 64 Mustang taillights. IMO they also look much better.

I think the horizontal design was 94 and 95.|||Complaints, suggestions, bad viewpoint.|||They had to change something !

Why would the tail lights on a Great Dane Trailer go out?

I have a 2000 trailer and the tail lights went out. I%26#039;ve changed the swiches, the cables, and even one of the light bulbs to see if that was the problem, but nothing works.|||Bad ground or broken ground wire.|||Maybe they%26#039;re old|||check and make sure it is plugged in correctly,if you pulled on the wire to unplug it then probably have jerked the wires off the pins or pulled the pins out of the plug|||#1 cause is bad grounding

#2 reason is a bad bulb

Does changing your head lights or exhaust void your cars warranty?

i drive a 2006 nissan Altima and i%26#039;m thinking of putting GReddy EVO 2 Catback Exhaust System on my Altima along with neons and halo head lights. also does tinting tail lights void warranty?|||The catback may be a violation, you should call your nissan dealer.|||As long as you only do a %26quot;cat-back%26quot; system, you%26#039;re okay. headlights and taillight mods are no issue with warranty either, though your local law enforcement can give you a fix-it-ticket for those mods.

How do you fix tail lights, head lights, and dash board lights in a Mazda 626?

My tail lights, head lights, and dash board lights are not working. I changed the fuse and the bulbs but stil no lights.|||There should be several fuses; one for the headlights, one for the tails, and one for the dash...did this just happen or a car you bought like this ?? Maybe even wiring - difficult to diagnose online

Motorcycle tail light keep blowing fuse?

I have a 1999 Suzuki GSX 750 F which is in pretty good condition... for some reason the tail light fuse keeps blowing (and also when this goes the instrument panel lights do too - I assume they%26#039;re on the same circuit) When I change tail light fuse, the tail light and instrument panel backlight come back on... this doesn%26#039;t affect the head light, which works fine, or the brake light which also is fine...any ideas why the tail light fuse keeps blowing... and how can I fix it?|||Got to be a short to earth somewhere either the panel lights or the tail light, try the tail light first try moving wires about with ignition on and a new fuse in and see if it blows, then try the other way with the panel lights, all a process of elimination.|||You%26#039;re in for some trial and error. Assuming you%26#039;re using the correct fuse(should be 15 amp I think), there%26#039;s gotta be some point in the wiring where it%26#039;s most likely pinched and grounding out.

Does it have a any type of eliminator kit? A lot of people accidentally pinch wires installing those. If so, I%26#039;d check the wiring where the work for that was done. If there is no eliminator kit, or you still didn%26#039;t locate the problem within the kit work..... Then you%26#039;ve really only got two options, both are unfortunately tedious and boring.

You could remove the light assemblies and see if it still blows. If not, put them back one at a time and see which specific part is triggering it... Or, it%26#039;s time to just bite the bullet and trace all the wires for a grounded point.|||You may have a short somewhere. I would check the wires carefully under the seat, it could be pitching by the seat or fuel tank.|||Hi there, It sounds like one of the cables is shorting out, the probable cause is a wire that passes close or rests on a piece of metal (frame or bolt) and the outer plastic covering has slowly worn away exposing the wires inside. I had a wire like that and it drove me to distraction trying to trace the fault. Separate each wire from the light and slowly and methodically check all round the wire back to the next connection. Good luck.

Why are my tail light running lights not coming on?

I have a 1996 Chevrolet 1500,The driver side light does not come on at night. The brake light and turning signal works fine.I changed the light bulbs and the circuit board on both sides.but the Night time running light on the driver side does not come on.the passenger side works fine.Like i said i changed both circuit boards and light bulbs.any ideas?|||Check the fuses under the hood|||Test the wire for B+ If no power check the wiring under the bed for corrosion. Open the wiring loom and you may have to stretch the wire and look/feel for a narrow spot. Corrosion can happen inside the coating with no obvious sign on the outside of the wire.

How to change tail light cover on 2001 Mustang?

Do I need to completely remove the trunk liner, or just peel back the one side far enough to get to everything? If the trunk liner does need removed, how do I do this? Obviously the two wing nuts on either side, but what else holds it in there?|||You have your own answer...

Yes, pull the trunk liner back out of the way (just enough to get to it)... It%26#039;s held in by a couple wing nuts, and maybe a little assembly glue. Just pull all the nuts, and pull... just don%26#039;t get carried away and damage anything.

The turn signals, headlights work. Changed light switch and tail lights and box lights still donot work. Does anyone know what it could be. I checked all fues and changed some. I am lossed. Thanks Larry|||It sounds like you have a fuse blown, or the wires are worn out.|||its probably a wiring problem. i would suggest having your lights looked at by a pro cuz wiring can be tricky if not done right. also check the bulbs.|||i own a repair shop, and it sounds like its lost its ground wire for the light,s i had this happen a couple of times on the u-haul trailer and truck,s i do some service work for them, and there always having light problems with them,id start checking all the ground wires on it ,id say you,ll find it ,there not hard to find, there are 3 ground points on it,,good luck i hope this help,s|||Dodge man is on the right track. You could possibly have a short somewhere in the main lighting harness. A good quick way to find out is to feel the entire harness from front to rear with the lights on. Where you feel the harness HOT, is where you have your short, usually caused by %26quot;green death%26quot; (corrosion). Hope this helps. Good luck.|||This type of %26quot;body%26#039; has a certain number of wiring problems. The chief offenders are broken wires, floating grounds, and defective %26quot;light sockets%26quot;. The Wires generally %26quot;hang loose%26quot; along the frame, and it isn%26#039;t real hard to run a limb or something up under the frame of truck and rip some of them loose! First thing I would check though, is to turn on parking lights, and run blinkers, and - or stoplights! If you have floating grounds on these sockets or the van body itself, you will get all kinds of unusual operation of the lights. Some things might be --lights going off when you step on the brake , stoplighs might also go out with parking/running lights on, but work normally when no other lights are on! You can check for power on bulb sockets with a test light. Make sure you check with ground on frame, then on %26quot;body %26quot;of van, (or light frames). if the light goes on on frame ground, but doesn%26#039;t on %26quot;body%26quot; ground, your %26quot;box%26quot; has lost it%26#039;s grounding, and you should put several wires to ground in different places(that way you can lose one or two and still be covered).

With a box van you also have %26quot;clearance lights on corners of the box too , - don%26#039;t you? If they are lighting, and your back end doesn%26#039;t,-- the break obviously has to be after the clearance/sidelights branch off the wiring bundle! So your search has been narrowed down a lot!,--If worse, comes to worse, you can run a line from front, - down the frame to the rear at some convenient junction place! Just wrap it around the wiring bunch about every 2 or 3 feet to keep it from drooping down and getting caught on something.

I doubt that you have any %26quot;shorts%26#039;, because shorts blow fuses, or burn wires. But you could have had a short in rear and burned off wire between the front and the rear, so go with care and check for %26quot;big sparks when hooking wires up as %26quot;jumps%26quot; to finish out the circuits! If you have a short with junper in, - you can then start working from back of truck towards the place it is shorted, (that will also be the place it is burned off too (if it got broken that way!)|||Depending upon the year, they hide some under the hood of the truck.. may want to check there.. some are on the left side wall behind the ouside fuse box and are hidden in a box that looks like something else (it%26#039;s only single fuse wide) and is taped up across the center of the box.. has two fuses in there to check...

Don%26#039;t know how the truck is wired since you have a 14 foot box and someone cut into the wiring. but usually the companies all splice off a connector on the back of the frame (where the bumper would normally go) to run the run lights... But they may have accidently spliced from the trailer tow connector instead of the main harness as the trailer tow fuses are the fuses Ford seems to hide in the main fuse box outside and on the side (depending upon the year.. I%26#039;m guessing 1999-01?.... As all fuses are on the dashboard on a 02? and newer and the older trucks had just 2 fuses boxes (one under the hood and one inside)

But after that it would require me to visually find the problem as I%26#039;ve had some newer trucks burn the connector in the back of the fuse box (usually people running way too much lights) and had some with a turn signal switch casuing issues (ususally more turn signals and brakes).. but not having the book or the year in front of me I%26#039;m lost

Hope this helps

"Why do the tail lights remain on if the car and lights are off?"?

Ask them too look up the tailight number needed and compare it to the one that was replaced. Also, this may not pertain to your car but old import vehicles are notorious for lighting electrical issues called %26quot;return to ground%26quot; meaning multiple circuits have failed and are allowing current to go through.|||check all of your fuses... your manual should indicate where to find them.

remove the fuse from its position and observe it... if the metal link (you can see this if you look at the side of the fuse) is still connected and disconnected, the fuse is ok... if the metal is %26quot;blown%26quot; or broken in half... the fuse needs to be replaced... i%26#039;d give that a look.. doesn%26#039;t take much time.

(btw.. there should be a fuse-remover tool in one of the fuse+relay boxes under your hood... use that to remove the fuses.. it makes life a lot easier...)

Why did my tail lights go out on a 1993 Corolla?

The right tail lights went out. People told us our brake lights did not work when we braked (right only).

So, I changed bulbs in right tail lights (there%26#039;s 4).

Two of the four are the same part number (the two tail light bulbs).

The other two are a different part # (one for backup light, one for turn signal).

During my changing of bulbs and investigating whether the bulbs were indeed blown, I realized the bulbs were ok.

So, I got into the fuse box under the hood. Although Toyota has a diagram of which fuse goes to which electrical thing, e.g. headlights, AC, heater, etc. There is no mention of tail lights on the box or in owner%26#039;s manual.

So, I%26#039;m screwing around and taking out fuses, trying to find which fuse (or relay) controls the tail lights. I take out a small fuse (7.5A); It%26#039;s blown, I replace it with a spare 7.5A.

What it all boils down to is this: I have no tail lights, both right and left. I do have the reverse lights and left brake light. Did I screw up something?|||you have an electrical problem. find the source.

The yellow (turn signal) stays on, everything stays on i already switched the bulb (turn signal) with the daytime bulb but the turn signal also is the brake light? Im hoping i can get a wiring diagram or any help because now i cant drive it till its done.thanks|||The problem is the 1994 Camaro used the same bulb for stop/tail and turn signal. The 1998 Camaro used a separate bulb for the turn signal. It will not work. I ran into the same issue when trying to install European Wrangler tail lights onto an American Wrangler (Euro has separate turn signal).

The only way it would ever work is if you ran a separate wire from the flasher to the taillight for the turn signal, otherwise no dice.|||I looked up the diagram from a 98 camaro tail lamp assembly, and a 94, Here are the links below, i%26#039;m not sure if they are different , but hope it helps.

Drill out the broken lock that your key turns...

make sure you don%26#039;t damage trunk lid

Once you remove the key lock you will notice a rod that goes from the key lock to the truck latch.

Use a long (small tipped) flat head screw driver to turn the latch lock.

You will be able to open and close trunk now

You will also be able to replace the lock cylinder once you have the trunk open...

Happy motoring...|||This might sound old school, but try sticking a credit card in the lock lever. It could push the locking mechanism up.

Or, try shorting out the electronic lever by pulling the fuse out and putting it back in rapidly.|||in some cars you can pull the back off of the back seat to get into the trunk, them just flip the latch on the truck lock|||Maybe remove back seat.|||Fix the lock first.

Depending on the vehicle the light assembly can be removed and the bulbs then replaced, all outside.|||take it to a body shop so even though the shop ppl damage it they have to fix it for ya|||Get real close to the outside of the trunk lid and yell REAL loud at the guy locked in there to open the lid from the inside.

Works like a charm.

How do you change the tail lights in a 2000 Ford Mustang? Cant find the owners manual.?

try this..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otuww3Ub9鈥?/a>|||open the trunk and pop out the liner. Should be 4 plastic %26quot;bolts%26quot;(look like trees) by your trunk latch and then there should be 2 plastic screws 1 on each side right behind the taillight. Once you have those out the liner should come out. Then once you have that out there should be 4 bolts holding the taillights in.

Is it possible to change the tail lights on my 2008 Mercedes s550 to the 2010 taillights?

Are they the same size?|||Yes they are the same size and yes it is possible. Actually, someone on MBWorld (http://www.mbworld.org/) has managed to do it. Here is the link to the thread (http://www.mbworld.org/forums/new-s-clas鈥?/a> Look for posts by CL55 Serge, he is the one who has actually, and successfully, done it. Personally, I would have your dealer do the install, but if not, I would highly recommend MBenzNL (http://mbenznl.nl/), they do fantastic work. Good luck.

How much does it cost to change headlights and tail lights?

I need to change one headlight one tail light and the third light in the back window of my 1994 honda civic ex how much would that cost?|||Go to any walmart or auto parts store. They%26#039;ll have a place where you can look up the type of light needed for your car. The lights cost anywhere from $6 and up depending on type and brand. You can probably install them your self for free. Or if you%26#039;re not comfortable, It only would take 10-20 minutes to replace them, so any car place should be able to do it for around $20.|||The cost of the bulbs and about a half hour of your time.|||thats cheap man..many people sold that...

How do I change the tail lights in a 93 taurus?

My tail light is out, and I cant seem to access the bulbs. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and I called some auto places, not too many out there know!|||Open the trunk then remove the trim panels in front of the lights. remove the nuts (about 8 of them) pull the whole assembly out the back and you will see where the bulbs are. Change the bulb and check to make sure it works befor you reassemble. Easy to do and shouldn%26#039;t take more than 15 minutes.|||Okay when I need to get a light changed I take it to my auto mechanic that I use for all repairs on my vehicle when it is out of warranty. wondering if it would be easy to swap out the stock tail lights for some aftermarket ones.|||Pretty much the easiest thing you could think of.|||Open the tailgate and there are two screws. How do brake tail lights change the color of the light you see?

How do they change the light you see from white to red?|||The white light that the lamp gives off contains all the colours of the spectrum:-

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet.

You could say that of these colours, the red lens lets through the red light only (so we see red), and the other colours are absorbed by the red lens.( they don%26#039;t get through the lens )

In reality, the red lens also lets through a little of the other colours as well, but it lets through much more red than any other colour.|||the lenses are colored.

colored lenses only allow certain wavelengths of light through them.

In the case a brake lights the red lenses only allow the red portion of the light bulbs light through.

Hope this makes sense!|||The lens that the light passes through (the tail light lens) absorbs all light except red which passes unaffected. So all other colors are blocked except red.

Changing a tail light bulb on a Ford Ka?

I need to change the right tail light bulb on my Ford Ka but I am at a loss as to how to do it, what type of bulb to get and where I can get it. Anyone help?|||I agree with Rachel there, you should go to halfords and they will find the right bulb for your car and change it for you for a small price, its only 拢2 or something!! :)|||go to halfords. in the lights section they ahve a guide. You find your car and get the code. Look for that code on the lights you need.

for fitting you go into the boot. At the back of where your lights are you should be able to pull of the casing/lining of the boot to get inside.

Then its just like changing a lightbulb!!!!!!!|||Halfords too expensive??? You%26#039;re looking to purchase ONE bulb! Obviously this is causing you concern so I would have thought the most sensible thing to do is to find out from Halfords which bulb you need and buy it when you are there. If it costs you 20 pence more, at least you%26#039;ve solved your problem. Alternatively take the existing bulb out and get to an alternative shop. Nothing difficult about that, surely!

Any other ideas what it could be?|||check the wireing plug on the rear of the lamp holder...a bad connection can cause this...|||When you replace the bulb the connections on the bulb holder may have a tiny bit of corrosion / oxidation on the contacts. Scrape this area with a screwdriver and retry.

If still does not work test if a voltage is present across the bulb holder - if not test for a voltage on wires leading into bulb holder etc working backwards until a voltage is found.|||HELLO

Help changing tail light in '98 Honda Passport?

I need help changing my tail light on the L side in my %26#039;98 Honda Passport. I get it almost out and then it won%26#039;t budge. I was going to take it to someone to fix, but it seems dumb if I can do it myself. It looks like there is a metal piece it%26#039;s getting stuck on. I%26#039;ve removed the 3 screws needed. Thanks for your help!|||Usually there are two or three screws that are visible and then there is kind of like a wedge that is not visible that needs to be forced out. Take the screws out like you did and just pull it out, if you cant do that just go to a shop, dont be embarrassed because you cant get it off.

Is it ok changing the tail light buls on your car with the lights on?

On the car|||Can%26#039;t imagine why would one want to do it - technically there are no problems, even though the general procedure calls for lights to be off.

It is unlikely that a bulb would fail due to this condition only. Take care to avoid contact with bare fingers, if it does happen, clean it with rubbing alcohol or similar BEFORE inserting into the socket.

NEVER install new headlamp/fog bulbs with lights on - they get hot immediately, the light is too strong for eyes and some types contain high-pressure gas.|||Not a very good Idea because you could burn the new bulbs out.

Is it possible to update the look of my ranger by replacing my current head and tail lights with those from the 2002 make? Also, if it%26#039;s possible can you direct me to a site to purchase them?
