With headlights on my brake lights won't work?

1992 Honda Civic -- With no lights on my brake lights will work fine. But with either the running or headlights on, they will not work. All the other lights work fine (blinkers, running, headlights, interior, hazards, etc) Any suggestions of what may be wrong here? I've checked the fuses and replaced the bulbs... Let me add that the tail %26amp; head lights were both just changed. Tails first %26amp; no problems. I never thought to re-check the tails once the new headlights were installed. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, but wanted to add that detail in... Any help is definetly appreciated!
With headlights on my brake lights won't work?
It's quite possible that it could be the stop lamp switch. (Located on the brake pedal...usually behind it)
With headlights on my brake lights won't work?
Bad ground connection on the taillight circuit. Circuits that share common parts (The bulb base ground shell and socket in this case) have a tendency to look for a better ground in an adjacent circuit. In this case, even though the taillights and brake lights are on two separate bulb filaments-both filaments share a common ground through the bulb base and socket. Because of this if the taillights can't find a good ground through their own circuit-it'll ground through the adjacent stop light circuit.

Electricity always follows the path of least resistance.

Try removing the taillight/brake light bulbs and cleaning out the socket (wiping it with a bit of WD40 on a rag is good enough.) Make sure there's no corrosion in the socket or bulb base and that no filaments inside the bulbs are loose.

My brake lights are always on, even when the cars off.?

My brake lights never turn off in my 95 nissan altima. I have to take the fuse out for them to turn off. The regular tail lights work perfectly. I changed out the brake light switch and still nothing. Anyone know a solution?
My brake lights are always on, even when the cars off.?
There is a short to ground in the wiring somewhere between the brake switch and the brake lights. Follow the wiring harness looking for a place where the wire may have rubbed through the insulation and is touching metal somewhere.
My brake lights are always on, even when the cars off.?
Short in the brake light circuit.
try lifting up on the brake pedal you may have to conjure a spring to the pedal to hold it up
If you replaced the switch and the problem continues, you will need to adjust the switch so it will be off when the brake pedal is not depressed.
you have a short. get a 12 volt light from a auto parts store and track it down.
look under the driver side dash, where the brake pedal goes up by the steering column, there is a switch there,it may be loose,if yes re tighten it.The lock nut may have come loose. The plunger springy has to make contact with brake pedal when the pedal is up,not being used.
sounds to me like the switch under the brake pedal is stuck. remove it and clean or just get a new one. if the problem persists see a mechanic because you don't seem to mechanically inclined.
maybe the brake light switch need adjusted.
replace the brake light switch on top of the brake pedal.

What are the chances of a Judge dismissing a case for no tail lights? ?

This is a two part question.

First, I was driving home the other night from purchasing a car from a private owner. I had inspected the car during the day time so I didn't think to check the rear tailights to make sure they were working. It took a while to finish the deal so I didn't leave his home till about 4pm and took about 2 hours to get home due to traffic etc.

I got pulled over while I was almost home and the state trooper told me I could bring a reciept showing it is fixed or pay the ticket. I showed him the bill of sale to prove I had JUST bought the car. He said he couldnt promise it would be dismissed if I brought in proof of fixing it however.

Can I win this case? I know negligence is not an excuse but considering the circumstances, I would think it would be dismissed.

Secondly,

How easy is it to change the court date and time? I'll be out of town that week so I need to reschedule.. does changing the court date hurt my chances of dismissal?
What are the chances of a Judge dismissing a case for no tail lights? ?
The trooper was right. Show the receipt or any proof to the court that your taillights are working and the judge may reduce or dismiss the ticket. You may still have to pay court costs though. You don't have to wait until your court date. Call the court and set up a time you can meet with them and go to where they are and show them your receipt and or proof you have taken care of it.
What are the chances of a Judge dismissing a case for no tail lights? ?
Very high....fix the tail light then take a picture of it and inform the judge that the police did not ticket you correctly. Make sure you change the date on the camera ;-)
In California, you would have to find a peace officer, have him inspect the vehicle and sign-off the citation proving the light is working. Then take it to court and have it dismissed as a fix-it ticket after payment of a small fee.

You could win the case, particularly if officer a) does not show, b) shows without independent recollection of the incident and/or c) testifies but doesn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you are guilty of the offense.

It's not a moving violation so don't worry about points.
Why in the world would you even be involved in this?

You should pay the fine (probably less than $100) and move on. It is a misdemeanor and involves no points, usually.

The law is that you are responsible for the condition of the vehichle you drive. That includes insurance. You might want to quit while you are even (don't be concerned with getting ahead). If you are asked by the court to show proof of insurance at the time you drove the car, you are probably screwed without a kiss.
I think it's pretty easy to change a court date, just call in.

Also I think you have a pretty good chance of getting it dropped. Plus you have nothing to lose. I'd get them fixed. Driver the car there so you can show the judge it's been fixed and explain your situation.

You basically have nothing to lose.
Okay, I would bet you have a good chance of getting it dismissed.

I would get the light fixed and take the receipt with you to court. Take a picture if you fix it yourself. Explain to the judge what had happened. Show him you were responsible and had it fixed right away with the receipt or picture or both.

That should do the trick. If they don't dismiss it, most likely they will reduce the ticket. If they decide to stick you with the ticket, they have payment options available if you cannot afford to pay it.

Changing your court date is not a problem. They understand that you have a life too. There should be a phone number or something on the ticket for the courthouse, call them and they can direct you on what to do to change your court date.

Just make sure you show up! They will issue a bench warrant for failure to appear if you do not show.

How to change oil in a 96 jeep grand cherokee and how to replace a rear tail light as well.?

Just wondering how easy it is to access both of these different things.
How to change oil in a 96 jeep grand cherokee and how to replace a rear tail light as well.?
no sweat real easy. oil drain plug is on the bottom of oil pan. you will need to slide underneath to get at it. oil filter is on the side of the block, get that while you're down there. rear light, get at them from the inside rear panel. nothin to it. go fo it.
How to change oil in a 96 jeep grand cherokee and how to replace a rear tail light as well.?
the tail light you can access by opening your trunk (lift gate) and looking at the lens there should be some Philips (+) head screws. after you remove them the lens assembly will come right off you van then twist the bulb holders and remove the bulbs. the oil change part of your question you should probably have a friend walk you through this process. if you don't do it right you could really screw something up.
It's easier said than done, simply get in your Jeep, start it up and drive it over to your local mechanics garage and pay him to change the oil and replace the bulb.

Then you can run around and tell your friends you just changed your oil and replaced the light for under $30.00 and the best part about it was you never even got dirty doing it.

Remember this: If you take your car to like any shop and they forget to tighten the drain plug and after you leave and you're driving down the street the oil leaks out and the engine locks up. Guess who's paying for the repairs? Not you, but that shop is.

BMW 325i Tail Light.?

Im about to get a 2006 BMW 325i and i noticed that the style of the tail lights arent the best and i was wondering if it would be possible to change the 325i tail lights to a 2006 BMW 525i tail lights? and if possible what would be a good estimate of the cost to exchange them?
BMW 325i Tail Light.?
the wont fit... you would have to change the whole rear end... that is expensive
BMW 325i Tail Light.?
The 325i tail lights are smaller than the 525i tail lights. You can get up graded versions though on the internet.

  • My taillights dont work but my head lights do?! what gives?

so.. my headlights work and my brake lights work. my turning signals blink and all but at night my tail lights wont light up until i brake and then they shut off again? .... my interior lights dont work either.

i changed the fuse so its not that.
My taillights dont work but my head lights do?! what gives?
there must be an electrical problem (short circuit) somewhere. my boyfriends car did the same. take it to an auto electrician, they'll be able to fix it
My taillights dont work but my head lights do?! what gives?
Did your check you bulbs? Your taillight bulbs are double filaments and it seems like the filaments for the tail light part are burned out.
It has to be one of the taillight bulbs. It's possible that it could actually be a front parking light also. In all probability it's one of the back ones though.
You probably have daytime running lights that are automatically turned on with your ignition. Try using the head light switch to turn your head lights on.
Maybe it has got to do with the wiring. The wiring could be a lose contact. Have it checked.
sounds to me like one of the lights itself is out, and it might be causing both of them not to work. I could be it is not getting connection. Have you had it hooked up to a camper or trailer of any sorts. You might have a short in the system.
Again, no car info??? It maybe your switch shorting out, does your dash panel light up when you turn your lights on? also try just turing on your parking lamp any lamps on?
Was the old fuse blown? Do you have a trailer plug? If the old fuse was blown, the new one could have blown straight away. Check the trailer plug, if you have one, for dirt and corrosion which might cause a short circuit, or your trailer wiring to see if you have bottomed out on it and stripped the wires.

    Otherwise check the globes.

how do i get at the plug to get the whole light out
I want to change my rear tail light for a after market light ,how do i unplug the socket ,do the inside panel?
well i have a honda civic, and when i changed my light i had to go into the trunk, pull the carpet away from the back, and the lights should be tucked in back there. depends on your car tho, do you still have the owners manual? if so, check that. :)

The brake lights on our 1991 jeep cherokee laredo will not work?

They just do not come on. All the other lights ie: reverse, tail, signals work fine. Changed bulbs, checked fuses, looked for short, tried a new pedal switch, broken wire- everything we could think of. What else could it possibly be? we are starting to lose hope...

how do i change them out? i've already unscrewed the three screws. now what? it's like it's stuck in there.
    2005 accord coupe tail lights?
the rear bumper cover has to come off. there are two bolts from the tail lamp that are under the top of the bumper cover. that's what's holding your tail lamps in.

the bumper cover is held on by screws underneath and at the wheel openings and by clips. the clips along the tops and sides have to be released to unhook the bumper cover.

2000 Jeep Liberty back lights are not working?
Are the brake lights working?? Are the turn signals working?? Need more info, but to me you have a bad ground! Check your fuses or relays if any. Are any of the back lights working??

Ok, I still can't solve my brake lights problem!!!?

I checked everything and even use test light to see if everything has powers. No idea? Only other thing I can think of maybe is the brake pad switch but I replaced twice??? So, how can I check if the brake pad swich is good before I install it?

    Recall info:

blubs changed, fuses good, tail light is good, turn signal is good, all area has powers(tested). So, with headlights on or off both back brake lights don't work just the middle but tail light works and is the same blub???
Ok, I still can't solve my brake lights problem!!!?
Use a bench tester to determine if the switch itself is good. It should show a circuit being closed when activated. Also check in your ground circuit to the brake lights they are usually grounded together and in some vehicles this circuit is separate from the turn signals. Also in a few vehicles there is an in-line fuse to the brake lights system, this is to avoid losing all tail lights during a failure of one system of the other. Electrical can be a head ache, as you undoubtedly know by now, but I wish you best of luck and you will find the problem. One other thing is does the vehicle have a wiring harness for a trailer? If so I would start by tracing it, I have found several shorts in this wiring harness and it will lead to problems which can stay masked. One I found was just pinched slightly between the hitch and frame but was enough to cause a short. Hope this helps ;)
Ok, I still can't solve my brake lights problem!!!?
Oh man you use your brakes..?
This is a confusing situation. You may have to take it to a mechanic. Sorry I couldn't help more.
check for power coming from the brake light switch into the turnsignal switch and then out of the turn signal switch. the third brake light bypasses the turn signal switch
Check the switch on the pedal with your test light. Make sure there is power to the switch. Have someone push the brake and make sure power goes through the switch, if not replace that switch. If it checks good, you may have a broken wire.
You probably put a single filament bulb in a double filament socket.

Check to see if you have a double filament bulb in place. It will have two silver boobs on the bottom.

Also clean the contacts and pull the contact tab up a little at the bottom of the socket. Sometimes the bulbs force them down too far so they don't make proper contact.

The simplest thing to do is to check if you have voltage at the socket contacts. Have a friend step on the brake pedal whlie you hold a voltmeter to each contact within the socket and to ground. If you get 12v voltage, everything is working perfectly. The only explanation is the bulb. If this is the case, then either:

    A) The bulb is defective. Try another one.

    B) You are putting the bulb in 180 degrees off. Match the side nipples to the socket properly.

    C) You have the wrong bulb, or it is single filament (see above).

This is not rocket science. Power to the socket = a lit bulb.
    You wont like this however:

IF things are as they seem to you there are only two possibilities that come to mind:

    1) The brake switch - I know of no test for them other than to install them and see.

    2) There is a wire in the system between the brakes and the lights that is partially frayed. When enough voltage is put through it - it shorts out. Unfortunately - you'll probaby need a mechanic for that second one. If the wire is cracked inside its casing - you'll never be able to see the bad wire as one.
You can test the brake switch with an ohm meter. Have someone hold the switch in the position it should be in to activate the lights, then check to see if they light. Maybe the switch is out of position.
you bulbs have two diferent wires going to it the turn signal is one and the brake is the other now if no brake lite but you have turnsignels try replacing the bulb it my look good but is not.
the only thing it sounds like you didnt check was to see if your ground has a good connection.some light testers wont help you there.you might have to look for it and make sure it is tight.its probably on the cars frame.follow the wires to the taillights and see if there is one wire that is bolted to the frame, and thats probably it
have you check the switch on brake pedal or have your brake fluid check on some cars there's an electric switch on master brake cylinder.
Most likely you are going to have to replace the turn signal switch in the steering wheel, your brake lights work through your turn signal , you may want to also check to see that the hazard flashers are working if they are not, make sure the hazard flasher switch is turned off, because the brake lights will be canceled out if the switch is on, but if the hazards are working properly then the turn switch is most likely the problem if you are sure about the other components you have checked

Why don't my '96 BMW 317ti brake lights don't work anymore?

I had brake pads installed when leaving the shop someone following told me I had no brake lights. The tail, signal, backing, and hazards all work fine. I checked all the bulbs and fuses which were in working condition. I changed them all anyway just as an extra precaution. Does anyone know if somehow changing the pads could affect the brake lights through maybe a sensor that is not connected in the wheels somehow or any other reasons why the brake lights aren't working?

Brake pedal switch is broken, or unplugged.

YES... i have checked for change or metals in the cig lighter.
Location of fuse for tail lights on 2000 Corolla.?
A really quick way to check fuses is with a test light the fuse will have medal sticking through the plastic on the back side of each terminal with a test light check for power on both side off fuse

if one fuse don't have power on one side it is blown you can check all the fuses in less that 30 sec or less and you wont have to remove a one in till you find the bad one so if you don't have a test light get one any auto parts store will have one . One of the most important tools in my box.
Location of fuse for tail lights on 2000 Corolla.?
If there is no guide on the cover, then just pull each fuse and look at it, there is a small metal wire connecting the two metal prongs. If that wire is broken then its bad, you will cause no damage by pulling them out and looking at them.
If you will lift the cover of the fuse box and look at the underside it will give you the location and a map of the fuse box.If you cannot understand where the location is your friendly auto store will be happy to assist you .

Open the hatch Remove the black plastic strip outside of the back door weatherstrip now you see two 10mm screws remove them the whole tail light assembly needs to be pulled rearward there are two pawn shaped snaps on the assembly that snap onto the body work. So do not pry outward it will break the pawn shaped snaps (experenced that) I use plastic pry bar set but sometime the assembly will pop out with just a good grip and rear pull. Then you can access each bulb holder Tail light brake light bulb has two filiments. snap assembly in foward rescrew the (2) 10mm and replace the black plastic cover And close the hatch

I did this and the instructions are correct. The thing to do to avoid breaking the gray snaps that hold the light is ti jimmy the light enough that you can slide a flat head screw driver between the light and body and then jimmy the gray snap prong loose on top and then the same thing on the bottom

I've never had a Nissan Murano, but the procedure for changing a tail-light is pretty much the same for any car.

The lights are accessed from inside the trunk. You will probably have to fold back the carpeting on the inside of the trunk to get to the lights. Once you locate the light that is burned out, just give the socket a twist and pull it out from the fixture. Then you can remove the bulb, replace it with a new one, and put the socket back into the light fixture.

To get the correct replacement bulb, go to an auto parts store. Be sure you know the model and year of your car and exactly which bulb you are replacing. You could even take the burned out bulb to the store with you.

Jeep Cherokee driver side parking light, and rear tail light went out. Changed bulbs, and it didnt fix it!?

both lights went out at the same time, I changed the bulbs and they still dont work.. Is there a fuse that could be causing this?
Jeep Cherokee driver side parking light, and rear tail light went out. Changed bulbs, and it didnt fix it!?
Possibly a broken ground wire. A fuse is not set to each side of the vehicle but the system it is tied to. Had a bad ground on my truck ( I broke installing hitch ) and it caused plate light to die and rear turn signals to not work. Just fixed that and lights worked great
Jeep Cherokee driver side parking light, and rear tail light went out. Changed bulbs, and it didnt fix it!?
yes, check the fuse box either under the hood, or under the dash board
Sounds like a fuse went out or a wire has a short. Check your fuse box. Once you find it (usually in the most inconvenient place possible), pull a fuse at a time. If the wire is solid all the way across, it's a good fuse. If there is a gap, the fuse is blown and you need a new one.
If you don't have an owner's manual, you can download one online. The manual will list the location of all the fuses.
Jeep running lights are all on the same fuse, so if the fuse was dead they would all be dead.

However you didn't mention the year. Jeeps before 1998 or so all have bulbs which have the nasty %26quot;bulb grease%26quot; on them. Did you get any of that into the socket? Also twist-lock sockets are a pain to get the bulbs seated in correctly. Try seating it (again) if you found a burnt out bulb.

How do I change the rear turn signal bulb in a 1999 Subaru Legacy wagon?
Check your owner's manual. We just did my wife's 2008, and there was a diagram in the manual that showed how to pull this off (Yours may be different).

On the 2008, with the tailgate opened, there are three narrow slots between the black plastic cowl inside the door jamb and the actual tail light assembly. You put a blade screwdriver in each of these, one at a time, %26quot;with a piece of electrical tape on it to prevent scratching,%26quot; and gently pry the cowl off. This exposes some screws that you remove to release the tail light assembly from the car. Once that's done you can see where you twist the plastic bulb holder to release it from the light assembly. Replace the bulb, re-install the holder in the assembly, re-attach the assembly to the car and the cowl to the assembly, and you're done.

There is a tall and narrow removable access panel just inside, just behind the tail light assembly. The bulbs are easily found and remove with a quarter twist counter clockwise.

it probably has those plastic clips helping hold it it. if you can get a screwdriver in use it to work the clips out. i worked at a ford dealership and when i had to replace lights i would always get new clips cause its just easier to rip them out and replace with new ones. but make sure you can do that first( get parts first).

From the inside there are plastic parts. Use a screw driver to remove some parts, but most new vehicles have compartments where you can unsnap. It's pretty simple after you see the back of the light.

The 04 Lexus ES headlights where most likley the Halogen yellow headlights found on your everyday car. If you want you could opt for the Lexus Factory Bi-xenon headlights which look better and illuminate the road brighter, they replicate the light you would see during the day. Incase you dont know what Xenon headlights are they have a white-ish blue-ish Hue to them which are found in almost every modern or luxury car today like BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Audi and Mercedes. The 05-06 ES models offered the %26quot;Lighting package%26quot; which included Bi-xenon headlights for the old generation Lexus ES. Try buying the factory lights from Lexus, if you just purchase the xenon bulbs they will look...well...ghetto on a Lexus. Try buying the retrofit factory Xenon headlights for the 04 Lexus ES. I would not recommend you purchase a used headlight off Ebay, its better to pay the full price so you can recieve the 1-5 year warranty. The 2005-2006 ES headlights should fit a 2004 ES model, seek proffesional help when installing and you may need an HID kit, ask an autoshop or your Lexus dealer for a quote (Pics below)

An $8 bottle of Mequiars PlastX, a soft cloth and 3-5 applications w/ a little elbow grease on the headlights might be all that you need to restore your headlights. There are also other restoration kits out there that might do an even better job for less than $20. Good luck.

Have you ever had a dream that came true?

When I was a kid (about 10 years old), I had a dream that they changed the tail lights on volkswagens beetles from all red to the red/amber/white combination that they are right now. I know it sounds like I'm making it up, but I'm not. It's the absolute truth.

Yes I had a dream that A woman at a hospital had triplets all of whom where blind. Then a week later I woke up and turned the TV on and found out a lady had had triplets and they where all blind. Trust me i am not making it up. I have been having dream like that for years That was just the most resent.

In about December, i had a dream that I was going to a camp and it seemed like it was summer. At the end of July, I AM going to camp!!
    yes.

it happened twice to me already. i happened to see a city I haven't been there before. After 1 week, I was already in that city and then I realized that lucid dream of a city that I saw 1 week prior was the same city I was now seeing.

I dreamed that my grandmother died even though she had no illnesses at the time. 4 days later she died (her stomach ruptured and she bleed to death in her sleep).

Two months latter I dreamed that her ex-husband died. 6 Days later he died.

Five weeks later I dreamed that her husband died. He starved to death because he refused to eat because his family was going to put him in a home.

One year later I dreamed my uncle died. Within days he died because he aspirated into his lungs while suffering from the flu.

yes one night i dreamt that my friend cheryl was coming to visit and the next morning exactly as it was in my dream she turned up!!

    Never.
I went to sleep after failing to figure out a programming problem in Turbo Pascal.

I tossed and turned all night having a dream I was typing endless lines of code.

At about 4am the program worked in my dream and I could finally sleep.

When I woke up the solution I dreamed of was the one that worked and it only took 15 minutes to get the program running.
If that was the case, I'd be the happiest person on earth.

Nothing like that has happened to me, but I have heard of many people who have had the same type of experience! I think it is so amazing!

I do experience deja vu quite often though and I'm amazed by that too
Yes. When i was about 10 I used to go to the swimming pool alot but I couldn't swim. One night I dreamt I was swimming under water, just gliding effortlessly and feeling the cool clear water rippling past my body. It was so clear and real I just knew what it was like to be swimming. The next day I went to the pool and acted out my dream and it really happened. I learnt to swim from a dream. (It's taken a long time to develop into a good swimmer though).
Absolutely, several times. I seem to be able to know when it is 'one of those' dreams and when it is not normal jumble. The problem is that I never get a specific time when the things I dream are going to happen. So, therefore, I just wait. There is no way to prepare. I used to never tell someone in case I was wrong. Now I tell someone, just so that there is someone who believes me. I have people who know I do this say 'What should we do to warn people?%26quot; I tell them that there is nothing we can do....I don't know when. And then it just happens. It only ever involves people and places that I know personally. Not in the rest of the world.

Not so hard. Open the trunk. Remove the two covers. Take off a few 10mm bolts, disconnect the electrical connector, push in the little thing to pop out the assembly, and then you can access the bulbs.

Brake lights don't work for 1995 chevy luma, but tail light works?
Your socket better known as a pigtail which the bulb fits in may be shorted out try replacing that or your fuse locating in your fuse panel. Your last resort is the brake switch located behind your pedal maybe stuck.

    check brake fuse

I had that problem with a 98 Ford Mustang. The problem was with the connection at the break pedal. One of the connections had frayed off and that was the end of the brake lights.
I had the same thing happen to me in my 95 Lumina several years ago. You need some electrical work done. Take it to a shop you trust.

I had the same problem to my GMC Savana. After I've changed few bulbs, finally I found the problem. There is a loose wire (where the bulb comes in), so all what you have to do is to check 'em out.

  • 1992 Nissan 240sx Dash/Tail Lights problem.?

I've actually ran into a problem with my dash/tail lights again with this car...and this fun fiasco started Monday.

This is the 3rd time this has happened w/ this exact car, so I'm not EXTREMELY worried, because the 2 previous times it has been the way the wiring in the tail light itself was done, either that or melted wired.

This time the fixes that I've done/tried/worked before aren't doing the trick. Even disconnected the CD player thats been in there for 9 months out just to go with all options in case a wire was pulling power incorrectly.

Checked wires, re-electrical taped wires that were taped, unplugged tail lights and tried (nothing from that either), did a check of wires IN the tail lights to see if anything was exposed and grounding out there, and nothing from that either.

    I'm stuck....

Was gonna redo wiring in drivers side tail lamp 2moro when its daylight out, I'm hoping that'll do the trick (changed 4 wires last time), thinking I mightve got one set or both backwards, idk.

I doubt thats it though...any suggestions??

I see no words to the effect you have checked all your fuses first. Don't forget the small fuse box under the hood.

Is it easy to change the tail light on a car?

    Depends on the car.

Some are easy to get to and just pop out or unscrew.

Some are harder to get to and need panels removed to change them.

And some are actually much more expensive and harder to change than you'd think.
Is it easy to change the tail light on a car?
dpends on the car. some are pop outs like a light bulb and some need to have little boxes removed to change the light.

hope you have the easier one.

Some cars you have to remove the Lens, while others are accessible from the trunk of the car.

1990 Honda Civic Tail Lights aren't working?

I think its gonna be some lamp or dimmer switch or something like that but I have a 1990 Honda Civic. When you turn the lights on there are two positions, the first I believe are your parking lights, the other the headlights for driving at night. When you click it to the first position the tail lights works fine, when you click it again to turn on the headlights, the tail lights go out. The brake lights still work though???? Any ideas? Fuses and bulbs have been checked, wiring has been inspected visibly...recent changes....driver side window replaced. Turn signals still work...could it be the dimmer??? What part controls your tail lights and makes them shine brighter when you hit the brake? Oh yeah the dash lights or gauge cluster is also out.
1990 Honda Civic Tail Lights aren't working?
ya know thats a little hard to tell but to answer your question about the brighter lights when pressing down on brake pedal the are two way bulbs(two filiments innside) one for tail and then both light up for brake....

as far as the rest goes all i can say is take a deep breath make sure your not overlooking something simple(fuse etc...)

and grab a multi meter or in desperation a test light and start going through the circuit and make sure there is continuity and power all through out the cicuit in question

    good luck

Tail lights, headlights, dashboard lights dont work, lincoln navigator?

I have a Lincoln navigator. Its a 2000. The dash lights went out and I replaced a burnt fude and they worked again. Then they went out again and the fuse is fine. I changed it anyway but they are still out. Then headlights went out. They came back on then my tail lights went out. Tonight headlights won't work again. So now I have no tail lights, headlights or dashboard lights. All the fuses are ok. What else could be the problem?
Tail lights, headlights, dashboard lights dont work, lincoln navigator?
Relay possibly. listen for any clicking when hitting the switch to bring your tail lights on. best resort take it to a shop. but you may have a bad relay. I'd still suggest taking it into a shop, they'd be able to find it easier and deal with it quickly.

There is probley a short somewhere in the system. Sorry, might have to get it checked out, especially with newer cars (2000+) Did you recently install a stero? How to change a burnt out brake light bulb?
go in the trunk and pull the carpet away from the back of the light...there is usually screws or grommets that you have to pop off and then the bulb slides out. it connects to its socket almost like when you connect a regular cord to an extension cord. the bulb will have the style of bulb that it is. Make sure you get this same kind. If you are really unsure go to an auto parts store and they will help you out.

Why are the battery and brake lights on 2000 Daewoo Leganza?

Quick and Dirty: My battery and brake lights are dimly lit with the car running. My battery crapped out today, I was able to jump it and get about 4-5 miles. Replaced the battery and the lights are still on.

Long Story: 3 days ago I 'fixed' my tail light problem. The driver's side tail-light would stay on with the headlights on-- basically the wire that ran near the fuse box along the trim broke, I rigged it with a thicker gauge wire.-- I don't know if this cause have jacked up my electrical system!

After I 'fixed' the wire, the next time I started my car the lights came on as described above and my radio had reset to (like I disconnected the battery or unplugged the radio all together). Today, the battery died in traffic (after a really weak start and the car slowly powering down)... the air bag light came on and the other two lights went off.

I was able to jump the car and get it 4-5 miles-- at this point, out of fear the wiring was the cause-- I re-disconnected the wiring I fixed-- with no change/improvement.

I took my battery back to AutoZone and had it checked, got a 'Bad Battery' from the machine. I put a new battery in this afternoon and the car is running fine (for now) but the two lights are still on as described above...

ANY IDEAS??? Did I fry something or did my alternator go at the exact time I 'fixed' my tail light wiring problem.

Other stuff: I already checked my radio-- no loose wires or improper connections. I don't know if there are any fuses I should check in the car??!?

    Thanks!
Why are the battery and brake lights on 2000 Daewoo Leganza?
well its still a good idea to check your fuses and if you have a multi meter check the battiery when running it should read 14.5 volts if not you have a bad altonater. and with you tail lights did you tape up your splice?

Chevrolet tail lights and dash lights out?

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, I was recently in an accident and when I got my car back repaired, the tail lights and dash lights are not working. I was thinking it was a simple fuse change, but when I looked, there is not a fuse for either one of these lights. I dont think the bulbs are out in all three places.... (dash, and each tail light)

    HELP!!!

I dont want to get a ticket for not having tail lights!
Chevrolet tail lights and dash lights out?
Typically that is a fuse on many cars they are fused together, showing the driver that when the dash lights go out there is another problem too

I do not have a wiring diagram for that vehicle, look in the owners manuel. In some cars there are 2 or 3 fuse panels. If that did not cure the issue I would take it back to the repair shop that did the work, especially if the damage was in the rear.

A loose Ground/bad connection/ broken wire or combination of all 3 could be the problem
Chevrolet tail lights and dash lights out?
did u check the manual for the fuse info? What do you mean by there is not a fuse- missing or non existent?
all of those things are on the same fuse, so that is probably your problem
Check and make sure you did not bump your dimmer switch inside for panel lights to a different position, all should be on same fuse so check owners manual again, this falls under your repair, trust me, it really does, take it back to should should be a quick fix if looked at by mechanic and should be no charge for you if not you will be happy you took it back and had them do the work correctly. Fuse should be near heater or radio fuse. GL!!!

My tail lights dont work when i turn my head lights on?

i have a 92 nissan 300zx 2+2. my license plate lights have been out ever since i bought the car so i decided 2 change them 2day. i put them in but they still didnt work and there was battery acid all over the socket. i had switched my lights on 1 click (2 means the head lights would come on) and forgot 2 turn them off before messing with the socket.

i started trying 2 clean some of the battery acid out of the socket where the lights go with a flathead screwdriver. so as im doing this i can see that my tail lights are on. i was cleaning out around the positive and negative charges and my lights started to flicker. then the second time i think the positive and negative charges connected/touched completely through the screwdriver and my tail lights went out, my deck reset, and my headlights wouldnt come on.

now when i try and turn my head lights on the tail lights dont come on unless i step on brake. instead of my headlights coming on when i switch them to on my high beams are on instead. i checked all my fuses and they are ok. my fuse links are all fine 2. the bulbs are all fine. i think i really messed up the wiring by touching positive and negative.

how can i fix this??? it is very important that my tail lights work because this car is my daily driver and i work graveyard shift.
My tail lights dont work when i turn my head lights on?
Well sounds like you probably fried the switch, i'd try replacing that if it doesn't solve your problem, be prepared to start tracing wires. Start from the affected area and trace it all the way back. You could have melted a wire which is causing it to short out or you could, have killed a relay as well. Did you just check the fuses under the dash, because there is probably another fuse box under the hood as well where you can check some of the relays.
My tail lights dont work when i turn my head lights on?
You smoked the fuse just change it and quit sticking screwdrivers in the light sockets.
    get new taillights
Your tail lights and number plate lights are on a different circuit to the brake lights.

You may have a poor connection, or broken wire.

Poor earth return is a common problem.
If all the advice above doesn't help your only other option is getting a specialist auto electrician to run diagnostics and track down where you shorted out the circuit.
check the fuse, then scrape the contact in the sockets and put some grease in the sockets.
My guess is you don't have grounding of the bulbs, because of the corrosion. I would say this because you state the %26quot;tail lights come on when you touch the brake%26quot;. I'd bet the brake lights don't come on!

This can happen because of the tail light filaments %26quot;finding ground%26quot; via the stop light filaments when the brake light switch is worked.

What you need to do is to test between the bulb contacts and a GOOD ground point, with tails switched on, using a voltmeter or a test lamp. If the volts are there, ground is the problem. Clean everything VERY well!

back lights not working but brake lights are. i have changed d bulbs and still only brake lights go on.if ts the fuse which one do i take out.if that not the problem then it has to be a bad earth whats the best way of tackling that.this is cracking me up thanx.

    Tail lights ford van?
Fuse will be labeled as parking lamps or tail lights. I doubt it's a bad ground. Check the fuse first.

One other thing it could be: If anyone has added a pigtail for trailer lights, those wires that have been spliced can sometimes come unhooked or just have a lousy connection due to corrosion from the elements. If you have a trailer harness on the back, you may want to follow those wires to where they were spiced and see if they need re-connecting. Waterproof connectors and some good electrical tape might be in order too!

Take out the braker fluid, and here is what i do, i replace it with grease. This works every time, and if the car goes out of control, this is not my fault!
Open the hatch and see if there is a cover panel on the inside of the vehicle. It may be that the bulbs are bayonet mounted from the inside. If there is a cover panel, open it. You will see the wiring and mounting socket. Turn the socket about a quarter turn and it will pop out. You can then replace the bulb and reinsert the socket.

    Good luck.
Use a small flat screwdriver, gently pry out the back of the light, there are 2 pins which hold the light onto the body by 2 plastic grommets.
after the 2 bolts are out it pops out to the side. its kinda hard to get good leverage on it. but it goes straight out sideways. you can try to get something between the front of the lens to pull, but watch the paint.

I keep changing the fuse on my car and it keeps blowing..?

i have a 99 mazda protege, and the fuse from the dash board lights and tail lights blew. i changed it about 10 times and it keeps blowing. also the radio will not even turn on.. im a female trying to fix it. can anyone tell me what the problem is? and about how much it will be to fix it and where i can get it fixed. thank you
I keep changing the fuse on my car and it keeps blowing..?
Something is up with your electrical system... You need to go in and have someone look at it... Hopefully they will be able to just hook it up to the Dino and figure out the error code but either way... You can't fix the electrical system on your own.

I keep changing the fuse on my car and it keeps blowing..?
I wish i had a girl like your fuse
Well, the fuse is blowing for a reason. The trick is - to find the reason.

If you can, find out what else is on that line. If its just the taillights and dash lights then pull out the bulbs. Try replacing the fuse with the bulbs out. If the fuse does not blow then replace the bulbs one-at-a-time until the fuse blows. That will be your bad circuit. If the fuse still blows when you have all the bulbs out, you will need to isolate each line to each socket until you find the %26quot;short%26quot;. If it gets to be too much a good mechanic can find it in about 20 minutes. A bad mechanic will keep trying different things until he/she stumble upon the problem.

Check the fuse for the radio. There should be one in the fuse panel and (if you have an after-market radio) there should be another in the power line to the radio,

    Good luck!
you might have some electrical wiring problems and may have accedentially messed up something when you were fixing it those times
you have a wiring problem..theres either two wires touching or the ground wire is touching metal somewhere...

the cost...its hard to tell..it all depends on where the wire is bad at and how much of the dash has to b tore out...

you can take it to your local garage and get an estimate...
you have a short somewhere, they can be real hard to track down , better get a mechanic to look at it before you could have a fire
Should be a common circuit with parking/tailights

Remove the bulbs from the parking and tailights

    Check sockets for corrosion/bare wires

Install fuse and replace bulbs one a time to see if problem is in the exterior of vehicle - if not same procedure under dash board
Are you sure you're using the right type of fuse? You may need a higher gauge.

If you still have the old one, check the number on the top.

If you have a friend with the same car ask and check theirs.

Otherwise, talk to your dealer or a mechanic for the right number.
You have a short somewhere. I would start tracing wires looking for breaks. Have you added any accessories or anything? Your radio should not be on the same fuse as your tail lights. Fords aren't anyways.
well if they blow once thats normal if they blow again then you have a short somewhere with one of the things that is not working.. any shop will do it but i could nt put a price on it unless i was working on it they go by time it take to fix it and what they have to do to fix it
Double check that you are using the right amperage fuse. If it's right and still blows you have a problem that could cause serious damage if you don't get to a mechanic.
It is an electronic problem and needs to have the garage check. You can ask for an estimate before paying for the work. Make sure the estimate is given in writing. Tell them you will get back to them after you go to a couple other garages for n estimate. This will let them know you won't be taken as a female because a lot of garages jack up the price when a female asks. Go to 3 garages and than go to the one that you feel is the most reputable and give them the lowest quote and see if they will match it. A lot of the newer cars require a computer diagnosis to find the problem when it is electronic. It may just be a faulty wire.
The only thing i can think of would be to get a voltage/amperage meter and open the car up and test the connections. Is the stereo a new one? did it come with the car? do you have other things installed/plugged in that did not come with the car. If you dont have a amperage meter and know how to use one you might have to take it to a local shop or a local highschool that has an autoshop class ( the teachers will let the kids fix it for you with no cost other than parts ). you might even be using the wrong fuses.

BTW: rishab copy and basted his post off another wiki site i say down thumb him
what's that definition of insanity? doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result? sorry, just kiddin...

this is one of those rogue electrical gremlins that can be difficult to diagnose. You'll have to take it to someone or else learn to use a multimeter (it's not that difficult).

If you end up taking it to the shop, it needs to be a mechanic you can trust -- they'll be charging by the hour, and it could take anywhere from 10 minutes to three hours maybe more.

wish I had a better answer for ya.
look in the wire harness to the tail lights, start at the lights and work back to the fuse box. You will find that harness in the trunk and under the carpet usually the drivers side good luck
Blown fuses are a Symptom of a problem, not the problem,There is a short circuit in one of the systems mentioned, a chafed wire perhaps. The parts that re most exposed are the taillights, look or feel where the wires come out of the tube if it is ruff tape it over with electrical tape. It is slow and tedious but rewarding if you find something.

Recalled vehicles are tracked by VIN. One scan into computer and they have a record of whether recall was done on your vehicle or not, and you don't be charged if it is indeed a recall item.
How long do recalls last on vehicles?
Recalls are forever, until the problem is fixed. Go to the nearest Chevrolet dealer and have them run your VIN to see if your vehicle is listed. Recalls are specific to vehicle by VIN, not general.

  • Anybody know how ta fix a loose muffler bearing?

or change tail light fluid? Im baffled and to lazy to get a shop manual!
Anybody know how ta fix a loose muffler bearing?
The muffler bearing is located right beside the hognozer gear. To replace it you have to use a bearing stretcher to get it off the wiggling pin. (The wiggling pin connects to the wobbling box)

The tail light fluid is the same basically as the headlamp fluid. You just need to be extra careful to not get the halogen fluid because it will melt the lenses.

The biggest problem I ever experienced was rotating and balancing the air in the tires. Seems when it went through my air recyclers it got so thin that it just wouldn't stay in the tires. Also I wasn't aware that you had to rotate the valve stem caps when you rotated the and balanced the air in the tires.
Anybody know how ta fix a loose muffler bearing?
You have to remove the flux capacitors to get at them. While you have the exhaust system down, you might as well go into the engine and upgrade the piston return springs.

Is there special tail light fluid available? I have always just used blinker fluid, which is always on hand because the oscillations require more frequent changes than in the tail light.
Before you can touch the muffler bearing, you must first take the pressure off the Kanuter valve. Not doing so will strip the valve guide bolts resulting having to get a Holmes head and shaft kit (very long one I'm told).

Is this on that old used bart? -or theAwesome ATB camoflage model No Quarter told me about?

Either way, its money and time down the drain.

I saw a fiend clear the air the other night,... all it did was fan the flames.

    -just tryin' to help...
Each one of these answers contain at least a part of the correct answer, do the math and you wont need a Manual, your wife should have no problem figuring it out, as we all know you are to lazy, all you need to do is sit back and tell her what spanner to use and when to use it.
You go to Pep Boys or Auto Zone and buy a Knortner. The instructions tell you how to do almost anything. You might also consider a Frammis, but they are a lot more expensive, and unless you are a professional mechanic, they are difficult to learn how to use.
To change tail light fluid, remove the lens, empty it out, leave it out in the rain overnight, then quickly mate it up to the fitting before you spill too much. Don't forget to add some of that stuff u bin smokin'. ;-)
the tools are not avail to general public but they can be ordered from the steam holder shoppe//they also send buckets of steam fedex along with the proper muffler bearing adjusters and spanners
Yer killin' me. Everyone knows that muffler bearings just get replaced when they are loose. Gotta run, need to change the magic smoke in my wiring harness.
They are all fixed with the same tool as used to fix the loose nut behind the wheel.
    You'll need a metric framistat and a left-handed micrometer.
It's too lazy, not to lazy. You are too lazy to spell!
    Locktite? ;-)
Don't forget its a left hand thread so use the correct left handed spanner

check the ground ( negative or minus ) connection. Just changing the fuse to a bigger one wont solve the problem.
My altezza aftermarket tail lights on my 96 nissan maxima aren't working properly. please help?
did you cut any wire when putting them in? Most taillights you take out the bulbs and put them into the new taillight unless you got L.E.D. taillights.
thier is some sort of shortage some where so check the wires you touched. alsotry disconnect and connect the harness again.

We really could use some information on the year, make, and model of this vehicle?

Is there any meaning to 18 wheeler tail light configuration?

I notice they change the pattern of the lights on their trailers. Was wondering if there was any significance.
Is there any meaning to 18 wheeler tail light configuration?
There is a meaning to some of the lights. A truck is required by federal DOT law to have left and right tail lights, turn signals and brake lights. It is also required to have 3 clearance marker lights in the center, either at the top of the back of the truck or on the same plane as the tail lights. All of which are to be red, except separate turn signals can be amber. No other lights are allowed to be on the same plane as the tail lights or clearance lights. This identifies the vehicle as a truck from the rear as prescribed by Federal DOT regulations.

Any other lights on the back, just mean the truck owner thinks it looks cool and usually has more money than he knows what to do with.

On the sides of the trailer, it is required by federal DOT regulations to have 1 amber clearance light on each front corner. On a van it is to be at the top. On a flat bed on the front corner. 1 amber light half way of the trailer(at the bottom of the side. 1 red clearance light at each back corner at the bottom. The rest of the lights with the exception of side turn signals are just to look cool and waste money.

The extra lights are called chicken lights as are all the extra lights on the cab of the truck.
Is there any meaning to 18 wheeler tail light configuration?
No, as long as they have left and right signals and a brake light on each side they are legal, lot's of trucks and trailers have extra lights just for show or increased visibility.
Actually it does have some meaning. D.O.T. has a lot to do with the way certain lights are placed on a trailer, some guys add more for fun.

Thanks guys and gals! :D 10pts for whoever can help me get them in! :D
How to change a tail light on a 1990 chevy Caviler?
There are 3 or 4 studs going through the panel where the tail lights are mounted that hold them in place, usually secured with big plastic wing-nuts. You may have to move some carpeting or a plastic panel out of the way to get that far.

    http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/鈥?/a>

%26quot;Depending upon vehicle application, remove the lamp socket either by rotating it counterclockwise (approximately 1 / 4 turn) until the plastic tabs disengage, or by squeezing the metal tangs while pulling the socket from the light assembly.

    Remove the bulb from the socket using the appropriate method. Bulbs with blade-type bases pull straight out, while those with round bases and protruding pins (bayonet-type bulbs) must be depressed, then rotated counterclockwise (approximately 1 / 8 turn) before pulling out.%26quot;

I'm thinking that on your model year, for a turn signal/brake bulb, to remove the socket would be the first method of the 2, and to remove the bulb would be the latter of the 2 methods.

    Re; Additional Details

First, put some good tough gloves on, so you don't jab yourself. Then take a pointy-tipped needle-nosed pliers, jam it into the bottom and push it down in, and twist counterclockwise. Holding the pliers so that the tips are spreading out can help too. If worse comes to worse, go to the auto parts store and look in the %26quot;HELP!%26quot; section for a new socket.
How to change a tail light on a 1990 chevy Caviler?
You'll have to open the trunk to gain access. I would do both of them while I was at it because it seems like when one goes out, the other goes out one month later.
open your trunk, you may have to move the carpet directly behind the lights. there should be four screws sticking out. unscrew all of them and carefully pull out the lens and housing. the bulbs should pull straight out, but you may have to wiggle them a bit. when you go to replace the lenses, be very careful not to overtighten the screws because you can damage the rubber seals.
Open the trunk. On the back panel, maybe behind the carpet trim. You'll see some black wing nuts.Remove those wing nuts and pull out the whole tail light assembly.Once you have it out you'll see where the wires go to.Twist and pull out to remove bulb.

Headlight and tail lights do not work what could be the problem?

I own a 1987 Nissan 300zx (not turbo) v6. I bought it recently and I have two issues the first being my headlights do not work but the high beams do. I have changed fuses and the relays so those can be ruled out. The other problem being my tail lights do not work. My turning signal, brakelights, and emergency lights do though. I have changed the bulbs so i dont think it is that. As for the headlight problems the bulb is a dual beam so it is not the bulb. If anyone can help me that would be greatly appreciated and if you need any more info just let me know.
Headlight and tail lights do not work what could be the problem?
Check the fuseable links out near the battery under a slanted black cover fuseable link wires could be burnt out. The far right hand (passengers side) link may be blown.
Headlight and tail lights do not work what could be the problem?
    Replace your headlight switch.
i agree, that seems to be the resistor inside the switch. a new unit should run about $30-$50 depending on where you buy it.
maybe u have a short to ground or a short in your wiring make sure your getting voltage from the connections

Anyone know how to change a front headlight on a mitsubishi outlander? 2004?

I used to own a 2000 Mitsu Eclipse and changed the tail lights by myself. The headlight on my outlander went out Christmas Eve and when I called Mitsubishi to quote a replacement, they said $545 ! YIKES! Not if I can do it myself....I found the part for $8.99 at a local auto parts store, but I am concerned that I may have to remove the bumper or something to get to the bulb - which would be why mitsu would charge so much to change it themselves.
Anyone know how to change a front headlight on a mitsubishi outlander? 2004?
Your dealer has quoted for a complete light assembly. It sounds like you need to ask for a quote on the bulb only. If the light has failed, and the car is only 2 years old, your warranty will cover it. If the light has been damaged by road debris, your insurer should cover the cost

Can someone help with a 93 Buick Regal Tail light problem?

I have a 93 Buick Regal and the Tail lights will not work, the turn signals work fine, even the stop light on the trunk lid. I have changed the bulbs and still nothing. My turn lever on the steering is alittle wore out, to get the turns to work, I pull it down and pull in just alittle, then they work. Could this have anything to do with the tail lights not working, or is it a short somewhere?

Tail lights are on a different circuit than brake and turn signals.

Do your front and side markers work?

Either blown fuse, bad switch, or bad relay.

It's tough to say which one........Sorry.

    Check the easy things first.
Can someone help with a 93 Buick Regal Tail light problem?
try fixing the lights and the fuse
check the switch on the brake pedal
i check see if you have a bad fuse. then if not. then its a short in the wires.
There is a short or a ground issue. Get a Chilton's Manuel from your local auto parts and pull the schematic. There you will find where the lights are grounded. Sometimes moisture will corrode the connection and effect the tail lights. Also there is a brake light switch that is between the brake pedal and the colum. There may be a short there also.

take it to a garage if you cant figure out how to do it yourself, itll be the cost of the light , æ‹¢20 from second hand or around æ‹¢50-æ‹¢60 new (depending on year) about æ‹¢20- æ‹¢50 at the MOST to fit it by a garage (do not go main dealer they will be sooooo expensive)

Ring Ford dealer - they will tell you exactly how much...

    Or

get one from a scrapyard and fit it yourself - undo the bolts and pop the new one on
Can be done yourself with a few basic tools and a quick job at a dealer.

Dealer would be the best place to get one as they have tended to change the design quite a bit over the years and a scrapper might not fit.

What are the possible repercussions when the wrong tail light is installed.?

I have a 97 Ford Explorer. Both tail lights need to be replaced. I went to the wrecking yard. They had two 95's, one 96, one 97 (these models have the same style tail light), all of which had no tail lights. The closest I could find were those of a 94. From 94 to 95 the tail light changed very slightly. It went from a straight edge (where the side panel meets the light) to a slightly rounded edge. The bolting pattern is the same. The height is the same. The width varies due to the curved edge. When the 94 is installed there is a slight gap where the %26quot;curve%26quot; should be. I wonder, to what extent, if any, will this affect the vehicle or the lamp itself. My main concern is water getting into the housing causing shorting or into the exterior frame of the vehicle causing corrosion. How valid are these concerns? What are the other issues I should consider?

    Thank you
What are the possible repercussions when the wrong tail light is installed.?
water would be your main concern..
What are the possible repercussions when the wrong tail light is installed.?
The seal comes from where the bulb attaches to the housing, not where the assembly bolts to the body. As long as the bulb connectors seal tightly in the assembly as they should, there won't be any problems at all.

I wouldn't worry about corrosion from water getting into the exterior of the body either. Water gets in there anyway.
The dimensions of the lamp should be the same, it should fit and be water tight, just the appearance would be off!
Yeah, water is your big concern, it wont look original. you could put some sealer around the outside if you wanted too.

  • Ok my tail lights work, but brake lights dont. help?

tried changing the fuse to be safe - nothing, checked the brake light switch - seems fine no missing parts. read somewhere it might be the ground, i ecently installed a sub and grounded the sub to a rail under my seat, i dunno if that has to do with anything. also its an 88 crx and they were working before just a couple days ago took my car to a shop to get new tires and they told me i had no brake lights.
Ok my tail lights work, but brake lights dont. help?
The brake light switch is the likely culprit. Just looking at it won't tell you anything, they fail internally. If there are no blown fuses, where you grounded the sub shouldn't affect anything as long as it is a strong ground.
Ok my tail lights work, but brake lights dont. help?
if there is 12 volts to the switch, then the fuse is good and the bulbs and or grounds at the lights would be suspect
I would say it's the brake light switch since you say the fuse is good. A ground problem would not effect all lights at the same time since they are grounded individually. Hope this helps. Good luck.
There's a chance the ground wire shorted out the bulbs themselves. Replacement bulbs are about $15 and easily can be returned if that's not the issue. I know it's not a speaker forum, but you should really ground the wires directly to the frame/body of the car by removing the carpet or cutting a small hole through it. If there's any paint on the surface (there probably is on the rail) it will not ground properly.
with a test probe you need to check for a 12 volt feed coming out of the brake switch when brake applied.. if ok go to the rear remove brake bulb and do the same... if ok check the earth connecton by putting test probe on the live terminal of the battery and check earth at rear good luck reg tony

2001 volkswagen new beetle need to know how to change a rear tail light?

i have looked in the owners manual and all it said was to take it a volkswagen dealer and the closest one is over 3 hours away i have the right bulb but i can figure out how to get to the old one to replace it?!?!?!?!
2001 volkswagen new beetle need to know how to change a rear tail light?
INSIDE THE HATCH THERE IS AN OVAL ACCESS PANEL

    BEHIND EACH LIGHT.

TAKE THAT OFF REACH IN AND YOU'LL FIND A KNOB.

TAKE IT OFF AND CAREFULLY PRY THE WHOLE LIGHT OUT.

DISCONNECT THE WIRES (JUST A PLUG) AND TAKE THE TAIL LIGHT WHERE YOU CAN WORK TO REPLACE THE BULB.

ANY CAR WASH SHOULD HAVE A REPLACEMENT.

    GOOD LUCK!

Brake lights, blinkers, yet no tail lights?

I have a 1987 Toyota Supra That has no tail lights. I have the brake lights and blinkers in the rear. I have changed the bulbs and the fuses what else could be wrong and how can I fix this problem. Could it also be the lamp failure box I found there and How would I fix this if it is the issue Thank you
Brake lights, blinkers, yet no tail lights?
It has to be something that is causing both sides to fail simultaneously. It could even be in the switch. I would start tracing wires down and checking with a meter to see where you stop getting power, but it is strange that the brake lights work.

    Good luck.
Brake lights, blinkers, yet no tail lights?
it will be the combination switch on the steering column
    Check all the bulbs-

All the way from the front bumper markers, to the rear, And make sure the 3rd Brake light bulb is good, I have found the the 3rd Light bulb would cause my brake lights not to work...
Take your car to a place that does electrical work on cars. You must have a loose wire or a short in the tail light.
do you have parking lights up front or just the tail lights not working ? if you dont have parking lights at all the problem is on your light switch . good luck buddy
A relay or a fuse there are 2 tail lights so it must be common to both .

What fuse would you have to change in your 2000 grand am to get the running lights working?

My brake lights, and hazard lights, both work fine. However my running lights (the tail-lights that go on when you have your headlights on at night so people behind you can see you) won't work. I actually got pulled over about a week ago for this and the cop suggested that it was the fuse for my running lights. But I have been having trouble trying to find out what fuse to change searching online, and reading the manual. Does anyone know?
What fuse would you have to change in your 2000 grand am to get the running lights working?
just get a fuse checker and check all of them. the tool is less than 10 bucks and is a BIG time saver. you just touch the tool to he contacts on the fuse while it is still in the car and it will tell you whether the fuse is bad. best purchase i ever made for diagnostic equipment.

    1996 Jeep Cherokee dash/tail lights?

Ever since I changed my headlight switch, the fuses for the dash/tail lights are popping every so often. It's getting worse, because I just changed the fuse on Saturday evening, and I had to change it again yesterday.

Any ideas why this is happening?

--it does have an aftermarket stereo that is probably wired funny, because I have to turn it off at the radio - it won't shut off on it's own when the car is turned off.

--It never did popped fuses before the headlight switch was changed.
    1996 Jeep Cherokee dash/tail lights?
Sounds like you may have crushed some wiring in the switch some way when installing, and causing it to ground, and short out... pinching wires can happen easily. I'd say open it back up, and look through the harness wiring, and double check what you did.

    - Good Luck!
    1996 Jeep Cherokee dash/tail lights?
Either the headlight switch is defective or as you mentioned the stereo is the culprit. Unplug the stereo and see what happens. I would be willing to bet they used the dashlight wire to the stereo as a ground wire for the new stereo. Pops fuses everytime.

Well, your tail lights are not your brake lights - they are usually two separate lights. The tail lights are only on when your vehicle lights are on - they are 'running lights' so that other vehicles can see you. And your brake lights only light up when you brake - they are only supposed to go on when you brake not at any other time.

Go to a Jiffy Lube or auto repair shop and have them look at the lights and change them for you. I usually check my lights by backing up to a big storefront window and turn on my lights, checking to see if both tail lights are on, and then touch the brake pedal and make sure both brake lights come on. You can check back-up lights too and turn signals that way.. If any lights are out you will be able to see that in the window. For the record, tail lights, brake lights should show up as red lights from the red plastic housing. Back up lights are white (clear plastic), and turn signals are amber color (yellow) plastic housing.

thats how there suppose to work lol it tells the car behind you your stopping
I think that your tail lights don't work at all, and your brake lights work when you put on the brakes, so you think they are the tail lights.

Have a shop take a look and see if your lights actually do work. And if not, they will find out why.

I have a 93 nissan 240sx. my tail lights and gauges stop working . need help. thanks?

I check the tail lights fuses and of course their blown. I replace them countless time but still same result. I changed the the brake light bulbs and the turn signal bulbs. i Heard it could be the problem but its not in my case. I heard that the fuse near the alternatar that is about 75 amp could cause the short so i also check that and it is fine. I looked up many forums and cant really find a solution that would help me. some say it could be a radio wire that is not taped. i didnt put it in but the previous owner did. it seems kinda crappy but it did work. I have this car for about 3 years now and it suddenly happen. any solution because i really dont have the money to put it in a shop and hope that they find the solution

The wires are shorting to ground all over the car. You better become good at tracking down bad wires, because you'll be doing it full time on that car. It would cost a fortune for a pro to fix them.
