1992 bmw 318is driver side tail lights are not working. I changed the bulb and checked fuses and it still would not work. What else could it be? Thank you for any and all help!|||Clean out the sockets for the bulbs with electrical contact cleaner. Make sure there%26#039;s no rust or corrosion. If there is, clean it up with emery paper (the black sort of sandpaper). Make sure the solder connections between the wires and the sockets are all good. If the sockets are badly corroded, you may need to replace them.
Once everything is clean, use some dielectric grease to protect against corrosion, and reinsert the bulbs. Make sure you%26#039;re using quality bulbs (as noted by the other poster).|||Hey. I have a 2000 318is and my dad is big on cars and knows basically everything there is to know. I kept having the same issue with my tail lights as well and I believe he found out that it was something with the fuses. I know you said you checked yours already, in that case it might just be because it%26#039;s an older car. It%26#039;s a common problem for the tail lights to burn out quickly in those cars.|||The BMW tail lights and turn signals have bulbs in them with a copper/gold base (the part that plugs into the housing).....you probably bought replacement bulbs with a cheap aluminum base, which shorts out all the time (I had the same problem years back on my 1992 318is also.)..........use only the more expensive ones (they%26#039;re about $2.00 more, big deal !) even if you have to buy it from the dealer directly.....PS.......watch out for that timeing chain tensioner....it%26#039;s a ***** to pay for.

DROP THE TAILGATE
THERE ARE 2 SCREWS ON THE SIDE.
UNDO THOSE SCREWS THE TAIL LIGHT COMES OFF
THEN UNDO THE SOCKET FOR THE BULB|||On my silverado i have to drop the tailgate to access the mounting screws. On the inner side of the tail gate are to bolt that hold the lens in. Usually an allen wrench or one of those starshaped security keys are required.

Open rear hatch, remove access panels to allow you to reach the tail light bulbs. They are located forward of the tail light assemblies on the inside bolster within the trunk enclosure.
Most of the bulbs will be a 1/4 turn counter clockwise to remove from their housing and the bulb may be a straight pull from it%26#039;s socket.
Get in there as it only takes a few minutes to accomplish.

How to change out tail light on my 05 Honda Accord?
I bought some of the Euro Tail lights to put on. I just cant seem to get the old lights to pop off though. I unscrewed the 3 screws holding it in. Is there something I can do to help me pull the lights off?|||you take off the taillight cover and you unscrew the bulb and replace with new bulb.|||Sometimes the seal around the plastic lens sticks on the lens, spray some silicone spray penetrating liquid and let it soak for a while, then tab it lightly with a rubber mallet until it comes lose...

Should vehicle tail lights be different colors?
Should red mean stop and maybe change running lights to something else, so it would be easier to tell if someone ahead was stopping? What color whould you suggest?|||Yes, I totally agree. In keeping with what we%26#039;re used to (don%26#039;t want to make the learning curve too difficult here)I think red should be stop and running should be green. It may be weird at first, but this is what life is all about. Since you brought this up, I%26#039;d also like to say that I think all car manufacturers should change blinker lights to yellow. It is highly annoying when I have to struggle to figure out whether the car ahead of me is about to turn or not since the blinker section is red....particularly during the day. Just my two cents...
How do I change the tail light on a 2005 Chevy Cobalt LT?
The 2005 Chevy Cobalt LT has a single, triangular tail lamp assembly on each rear corner of the vehicle. (Not the more common pair of circular lights on other models.)
Opening the trunk reveals two screws attaching the tail lamp assembly to the car. Removing the two screws allows the assembly to wiggle a little bit, but the assembly cannot be pulled away from the car to disconnect the wiring harness or access the bulbs.
The Pioneer sub woofer limits how far I can pull the trunk carpet wall back, but I have felt for any other retention clips, screws, or wire harnesses. I cannot find anything else to disconnect.

Have 97 lincoln mark 8 tail lights not working, brake lights turn signal back up etc all k what could be wrong?
Just had fuse changed on brake lights, due to car not coming out of park, but all fuses have tested good. All brake lights, back up lights, turn signals, etc, work, but not tail lights. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?|||The bulbs filament is burnt. Each rear tail light bulb has a double filament. The bright one is for the turn, brake, and hazard lights. The other is for the park lights. The bulb should be a 3157. If by chance a 3156 bulb was installed the lights wouldn%26#039;t work right, because this bulb is a single filament.
Double check your bulbs.
Hope this helps and good luck. Christopher|||best answer never showed up The easiest solution and the answer turned out to be just check for burned out fuse. Never trust a fuse tester. Even though they all tested good twice, I had two burned out fuses - one for the brake light, not letting the car come out of park, and one for the tail lights
|||Does your car still stay in park when you start it and try to shift it? The reason I ask is because the same thing happened to my Crown Victoria. The rear brake lights were not working so the car would not shift into gear. What the problem was is the brake light switch. When it burns out the tail lights will not work and the car will not shift into gear. The brake light switch is located at the top of the brake pedal shaft. It%26#039;s a pain in the neck to replace because you have to reach up under the dash board. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to replace. The brake light switch is about 40 bucks from the dealer. So if your lights are out and the car will not shift into drive than that is your problem. If your car is driving, sorry I don%26#039;t know what to tell you, you%26#039;ll have to get a mechanic to look at it.
When I bough my brake light switch the dealer told me the reason the car will not shift into gear when the brake light don%26#039;t work it%26#039;s because it%26#039;s a safety feature to prevent you from driving the car without tail and brake lights. Especially at night, so when you stop you won%26#039;t get rear ended by another car because the brake lights didn%26#039;t work.|||its not the bulbs you have several tail light bulbs for each size the problem Mark8 have is the wiring harness in the trunk it runs up the trunk hinge so it moves every time you open and close the trunk. You have a pinched wire in there find where the harness bend when trunk is open and the problem will be close by that area.
Double check your bulbs.

When the 1995 mustang came out, why did Ford change the design of the tail lights for the 1996 modle and up?

Motorcycle tail light keep blowing fuse?
I have a 1999 Suzuki GSX 750 F which is in pretty good condition... for some reason the tail light fuse keeps blowing (and also when this goes the instrument panel lights do too - I assume they%26#039;re on the same circuit) When I change tail light fuse, the tail light and instrument panel backlight come back on... this doesn%26#039;t affect the head light, which works fine, or the brake light which also is fine...any ideas why the tail light fuse keeps blowing... and how can I fix it?|||Got to be a short to earth somewhere either the panel lights or the tail light, try the tail light first try moving wires about with ignition on and a new fuse in and see if it blows, then try the other way with the panel lights, all a process of elimination.|||You%26#039;re in for some trial and error. Assuming you%26#039;re using the correct fuse(should be 15 amp I think), there%26#039;s gotta be some point in the wiring where it%26#039;s most likely pinched and grounding out.
Does it have a any type of eliminator kit? A lot of people accidentally pinch wires installing those. If so, I%26#039;d check the wiring where the work for that was done. Good luck.|||This type of %26quot;body%26#039; has a certain number of wiring problems. The chief offenders are broken wires, floating grounds, and defective %26quot;light sockets%26quot;. The Wires generally %26quot;hang loose%26quot; along the frame, and it isn%26#039;t real hard to run a limb or something up under the frame of truck and rip some of them loose! First thing I would check though, is to turn on parking lights, and run blinkers, and - or stoplights! If you have floating grounds on these sockets or the van body itself, you will get all kinds of unusual operation of the lights. Some things might be --lights going off when you step on the brake , stoplighs might also go out with parking/running lights on, but work normally when no other lights are on! You can check for power on bulb sockets with a test light. Make sure you check with ground on frame, then on %26quot;body %26quot;of van, (or light frames). if the light goes on on frame ground, but doesn%26#039;t on %26quot;body%26quot; ground, your %26quot;box%26quot; has lost it%26#039;s grounding, and you should put several wires to ground in different places(that way you can lose one or two and still be covered).
With a box van you also have %26quot;clearance lights on corners of the box too , - don%26#039;t you? If they are lighting, and your back end doesn%26#039;t,-- the break obviously has to be after the clearance/sidelights branch off the wiring bundle! So your search has been narrowed down a lot!,--If worse, comes to worse, you can run a line from front, - down the frame to the rear at some convenient junction place! Just wrap it around the wiring bunch about every 2 or 3 feet to keep it from drooping down and getting caught on something.
I doubt that you have any %26quot;shorts%26#039;, because shorts blow fuses, or burn wires. But you could have had a short in rear and burned off wire between the front and the rear, so go with care and check for %26quot;big sparks when hooking wires up as %26quot;jumps%26quot; to finish out the circuits! If you have a short with junper in, - you can then start working from back of truck towards the place it is shorted, (that will also be the place it is burned off too (if it got broken that way!)|||Depending upon the year, they hide some under the hood of the truck.. may want to check there.. some are on the left side wall behind the ouside fuse box and are hidden in a box that looks like something else (it%26#039;s only single fuse wide) and is taped up across the center of the box.. has two fuses in there to check...
Don%26#039;t know how the truck is wired since you have a 14 foot box and someone cut into the wiring. but usually the companies all splice off a connector on the back of the frame (where the bumper would normally go) to run the run lights... But they may have accidently spliced from the trailer tow connector instead of the main harness as the trailer tow fuses are the fuses Ford seems to hide in the main fuse box outside and on the side (depending upon the year.. I%26#039;m guessing 1999-01?.... As all fuses are on the dashboard on a 02? and newer and the older trucks had just 2 fuses boxes (one under the hood and one inside)
But after that it would require me to visually find the problem as I%26#039;ve had some newer trucks burn the connector in the back of the fuse box (usually people running way too much lights) and had some with a turn signal switch casuing issues (ususally more turn signals and brakes).. but not having the book or the year in front of me I%26#039;m lost

"Why do the tail lights remain on if the car and lights are off?"?
its on a 91 totota corolla, also the blinkers dont flash, they still make the blinking sound though.this all happened after the guy at autozone changed my tail light bulb.|||he probole installed the wrong kind of bulb.|||Take it back to auto zone and let them figure it out.|||there is a brake switch at the brake pedal. it could be be broke and might need replacing|||If a wrong bulb is installed, it could put everything else on the fritz. Autozone guys are there to help you pick the part you need, not install it, thats why they don%26#039;t work at a shop. Ask them too look up the tailight number needed and compare it to the one that was replaced. Also, this may not pertain to your car but old import vehicles are notorious for lighting electrical issues called %26quot;return to ground%26quot; meaning multiple circuits have failed and are allowing current to go through.|||check all of your fuses... your manual should indicate where to find them.

Why did my tail lights go out on a 1993 Corolla?
The right tail lights went out. People told us our brake lights did not work when we braked (right only).
So, I changed bulbs in right tail lights (there%26#039;s 4).
Two of the four are the same part number (the two tail light bulbs).
The other two are a different part # (one for backup light, one for turn signal).
During my changing of bulbs and investigating whether the bulbs were indeed blown, I realized the bulbs were ok.
So, I got into the fuse box under the hood. Although Toyota has a diagram of which fuse goes to which electrical thing, e.g. headlights, AC, heater, etc. There is no mention of tail lights on the box or in owner%26#039;s manual.
So, I%26#039;m screwing around and taking out fuses, trying to find which fuse (or relay) controls the tail lights. I take out a small fuse (7.5A); It%26#039;s blown, I replace it with a spare 7.5A.
What it all boils down to is this: I have no tail lights, both right and left. I do have the reverse lights and left brake light. Did I screw up something?|||you have an electrical problem. find the source.

Drill out the broken lock that your key turns...
make sure you don%26#039;t damage trunk lid
Once you remove the key lock you will notice a rod that goes from the key lock to the truck latch.
Use a long (small tipped) flat head screw driver to turn the latch lock.
You will be able to open and close trunk now
You will also be able to replace the lock cylinder once you have the trunk open...

How do brake tail lights change the color of the light you see?
How do they change the light you see from white to red?|||The white light that the lamp gives off contains all the colours of the spectrum:-
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet.
You could say that of these colours, the red lens lets through the red light only (so we see red), and the other colours are absorbed by the red lens.( they don%26#039;t get through the lens )

On the car|||Can%26#039;t imagine why would one want to do it - technically there are no problems, even though the general procedure calls for lights to be off.
It is unlikely that a bulb would fail due to this condition only. Take care to avoid contact with bare fingers, if it does happen, clean it with rubbing alcohol or similar BEFORE inserting into the socket.
NEVER install new headlamp/fog bulbs with lights on - they get hot immediately, the light is too strong for eyes and some types contain high-pressure gas.|||Not a very good Idea because you could burn the new bulbs out.

Changing the headlights and tail lights on a 97 Range Rover?
Is it possible to update the look of my ranger by replacing my current head and tail lights with those from the 2002 make? Also, if it%26#039;s possible can you direct me to a site to purchase them? Thanks!|||My best advice would be to call an aftermarket parts store and look up both vehicles and see if the same part number comes up under both. If that fails phone the dealer and see if they are able to help out with the cross reference.
96 Camaro - Changing directional and tail lights?
I%26#039;ve changed the headlights but never the brake lights or directional on my 96 camaro, and now I need to do both. There is no obvious way to access the lights to change them out. Can anybody provide direction on changing the brake and directional lamps? Thank.|||IN the boot or trunk... pull the carpet away from the rear and you should find 3 or 4 large plastic wing nuts holding the entire assembly for each side... remove these wing nuts and then pull the complete lamp assm out of the body then the bulbs will be VERy evident..
