after checking all the fuses, and changing the fusible link, still no taillights. What really perplexes me is they are multi-filamaent bulbs and i still have brake and signal lights. All bulbs have been replaced. Does anyone have a solution?
I plugged a friend's trailer into the pigtail of my '88chevy p/u and it burnt out the tail lights?
Sounds like his trailer was not wired correctly. Was there a blown fuse that you found? If not then there is an open in a wire somewhere. Possible burned wire. Do your parking lights on front work?

i agree, do your front parking lights work, possibly headlight switch
