please help me...i have a 1996 toyota rav4 and i replaced the alternator and now the tail lights, brake lights, and dash lights are not working:( does anyone have any idea on what the problem is? also do you know where i could find the fuse panel in this car? There is a blown out fuse. Look in a good repair manual to locate all the fuse boxes in your car.
Designers purposely put the tail lights and dash lights on the same fuse, because you could drive for weeks or months without KNOWING the tail lights are out. With the DASH lights out, you fix the problem quickly.



Replace the fuse.
Surely it is the fuse blown out. Just have a look on the driver's seat on the right hand side, you will notice a flapper about 3%26quot;x3%26quot; pull it out softly, you will see a diagram of all the fuses. Take it out fuses one by one, the once blown off will be easily visible with naked eye. Change it and you will be alright. Good luck.If it does not work, check the earth wire, possibly it is not tightened properly.

When you open the trunk you should see two screws. Remove them and the lamp assembly should come out. When you get it out twist and remove the bulb sockets from the housing and replace the bulb. Just a guess because I don't know what year it is.

Open tailgate and look down the side of the light. You should see 2 screws. Remove. On the outside of the light where it meets the quarter panel you will need a thin wedge or something thin and strong to put in the gap about tree inches down from the top. Lever the lamp backwards and it should pop out. Same thing at the bottom and you will be able to remove the light. Don't be too forceful or you will break the lamp. Good luck.

My brake lights wont work on my 1996 mitsubishi spacewagon 2.0glxi. it is a stop/tail bulb?

there is power going to the fuse box and also to the brake pedal switch.the switch has been taken out and tested and is working.and the bulbs have been changed.the rear side tail lights are working when i put the lights on.there is a towbar on the car with working electrics.can someone give me any clue what to look for,as i dont want to get stopped by the pelars?

What about power coming FROM the switch when it's activated? If there isn't then it's the switch,if there is then it's either the wiring from there to the lamp or the lamp mother board or bulb holder. Pull board/bulb holder out and look for corrosion or any loose or broken wiring.

i think you have a traped wire some where in the body or its a dogy bulb this can happen?

Have you tested for power to the stop light and is it both sides? If only one side and a new, working lamp is fitted, than it will be the power supply. Try checking the plug connection to the rear light assembly by pulling it off and putting it back. Usually if one filament in a lamp works then there is nothing wrong with the earth side.

Thank you for any and all help!|||Clean out the sockets for the bulbs with electrical contact cleaner. Make sure there%26#039;s no rust or corrosion. If there is, clean it up with emery paper (the black sort of sandpaper). Make sure the solder connections between the wires and the sockets are all good. If the sockets are badly corroded, you may need to replace them.





Once everything is clean, use some dielectric grease to protect against corrosion, and reinsert the bulbs. Make sure you%26#039;re using quality bulbs (as noted by the other poster).|||Hey. It%26#039;s a common problem for the tail lights to burn out quickly in those cars.|||The BMW tail lights and turn signals have bulbs in them with a copper/gold base (the part that plugs into the housing).....you probably bought replacement bulbs with a cheap aluminum base, which shorts out all the time (I had the same problem years back on my 1992 318is also.)..........use only the more expensive ones (they%26#039;re about $2.00 more, big deal !) even if you have to buy it from the dealer directly.....PS.......watch out for that timeing chain tensioner....it%26#039;s a ***** to pay for.
