What is causing my tail lamp to malfunction?

I own a 99 accord ex coupe. Sometimes the tail lamp sensor goes off on the dashboard when I press the brakes and I notice that 1 of the tail lamps doesn't change when the brake is pressed (however it does turn on when I switch the headlights on). Other times everything works fine and there is no problem. All of the tail lights work perfectly when i turn the switch on for the headlights. When I press the brakes (with the headlights still on) the faulty tail lamp remains as if I hadn't pressed the brake. Again what confuses me is that this only occurs some of the time; with no apparant pattern other than when I press the brakes. I checked the brake fluid and it is at the proper level.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but the taillamp and brake lamp may use the same bulb...some bulbs have 2 filaments and that is the first thing I would check. Then you can start searching for open circuits in the wiring if that is not the case.

you have a short somewhere, do you have a custom stereo? if so this can be a major cause. Your remote wire for your stereo is tied into your lights. I would start there..if no custom stereo, i am guessing it is in your dash somewhere. prob your steering column.
you got a bulb gone bad in it there are a lot of bulbs back there one is for the park light ,,that's the one your seeing when you turn the lights on,,you need to get to them and replace the one for the other one,,it may just not be making contact real good,you might be able to clean it real good and it work,,but id replace it while i had it out,,replace any bulb that has a blackish look to them,,there getting ready to blow if they have that blackish look to them,,good luck hope this help,s.
The tail lamp bulb may be loose or corroded in the socket, or there may be a problem with the wiring.

How much does it Cost to get break lights and blinker lights rewired?

The back left blinker and tail light does not work on my 1993 dodge caravan...i took it to a mechanic to see what was wrong with it (as changing of the bulbs didn't work) and he said it needs to be rewired and to take it to a dealership..



any one have a rough estimate of how much it may cost?

Dude... open the trunk and look at the back side of the housing TADA...twist off the connector and change the bulb go slow and don't force it....SIMPLE ENOUGH..you might have to move a side panel in your trunk or open an access panel but your ment to be able to get to it....

I drive a 94 Toyota paseo. I changed the stereo in my car and put in brand new speakers as well, as soon as well finished installing everything we tried it out... It works but Now my dash board lights and my tail lights down work... Why did this happen? What can I do to fix this? Without tail lights I can't drive at night.

Hey your dashboard lights are gone out to tell you that your tail lights are not working they are connected together (same circuit), I am 90% sure it is a fuse it will usually be under the steering wheel column under a kick panel or a cover which has to to pulled to reveal the fuses again near the steering (right hand side steering at least) if not check under the hood should be there in a black box with a cover on top of it (at the back of the covers or on top it should say where and what each fuse is used for, also check your %26quot;DOME FUSE%26quot; chances are that is probably gone too.

Check your fuses, and your recent new wiring.
There is a light circuit going to the factory radio system. You probably shorted this by accident, blowing the fuse to the lights.
blown fuse . you should Always disconnect the battery while installing auto equipment. or at least pull the fuse to the circuit your be working with . the fuse that is blown is the ACC or radio fuse .

Check your fuses. There is a fusebox in the trunk, under the floor on the right.

Problems with brake/tail lights on JGC

I have replaced both rear light assemblies last November and I'm having problems with them again. First it was my right brake light, it only works when the car is in park, but not while in %26quot;drive%26quot;. Now I've noticed that I don't have any tail lights on either side. Everything else works fine (keeping my fingers crossed). What could be the problem. the light assemblies are 160.00 each and I don't want to replace them both again considering I just did that not even a year ago. PLEASE HELP!!! I've tried changing the bulbs but it still does not work.
